With violinist Gunda Gottschalk and accordionist Ute Völker, the ICI Ensemble invites two outstanding artists from the NRW improvisation scene.
The two musicians have been working together in various projects for 30 years now. The longest lasting is their work with the ensemble Partita Radicale, which explores the field of new composed music and improvisation as well as realizing music theater productions and working across genres.
The Munich-based International Composers and Improvisers Ensemble (ICI) is one of the few large, continuously working improvisation ensembles in the world, and its unique sound has inspired quite a few greats on the scene to collaborate, including George Lewis, William Parker, Barry Guy, Phil Minton and Peter Brötzmann. "The ICI Ensemble remarkably delivers assertiveness of the resistant, as a reopening of a playing field for non-conformist, creative imagination" (Harry Lachner).
With excitement and anticipation one can expect this first encounter of the ICI Ensemble with Gunda Gottschalk and Ute Völker, which will undoubtedly offer a journey into fascinating soundscapes.
