Wig styling for drag kings

Workshop with Pinay Colada

Ready for Big Hair & Bigger Drag Energy? In the wig styling workshop, professional makup artist, drag artist and wig stylist Pinay Colada shares step by step how to create an expressive drag look from a simple wig - tailored to the needs of drag kings, quings and genderqueer performances. It's all about the styling options for different drag aesthetics - from masculine to androgynous to maximally expressive.

The workshop is aimed at all levels of experience: experimenting, learning, laughing and, of course, glittering.

Self-catering: 29 €
Participants take with them:
Styling head (polystyrene or fabric head)
30 flat rollers/flocked metal rollers (25-30 mm) e.g. Efalock brand
tousle brush
Brush (paddle brush)
Smoothing brush
Comb set (styling comb, curling comb, developing comb)
Hair lacquer (got2be/Balea)
Hard front wig/lace front wig (preferably a 33x7-10cm lace front and no middle/side parting lace and please no human hair!)
Styling products such as styling powder, hair gel (please bring your own hair lacquer)
Table holder for styling head
Duckbill clips
Pearl head pins

Jay Miniano aka Pinay Colada started drag in 2018 and has been working professionally as a make-up artist and hairstylist since 2019. After several years as a make-up lecturer, Jay specialized independently as a drag artist, make-up artist and wig stylist in 2023. Under the name "The Wigdoctor", Jay breathes new life into used wigs: re-setting, repairs and professional refurbishment are just as much a part of this as customized new wig creations with complex structures and strong silhouettes - always tailored to performance, character and body.
