In “Le Silence” – Just One Word!, the nearly deaf-blind poet and performer Sandra M. Niggemann creates an artistic space on an equal footing. Amid the noise of Frankfurt’s cityscape, she offers a place of silence and reflection for inner contemplation. Silence is an individual and intimate experience. It’s no coincidence that hermits deliberately seek solitude to consciously immerse themselves in silence. While the world grows quiet in silence, people voluntarily choose, in a conscious act, to say nothing. In this vacuum, silence—alongside the absence of speech in the performance—becomes essential. Without further specification, it is up to the visitors to ultimately offer “Just one word!” to the deaf-blind artist within this synthetic nothingness.
Sandra M. Niggemann has been working as a freelance artist since 2025. Her focus here is on creating word-based works. She also develops design concepts for inclusive art. She is currently working on her first collection of poetry. At the heart of her artistic practice, she plays with silence and stillness as forms of expression in their own right, giving rise to poetic and conceptual formats that renegotiate perception and participation. Most recently, she worked as a research associate at the German Institute for Human Rights. Her artistic work is also influenced by her previous professional experience.
Implantieren is a biennial performance festival organized by ID_Frankfurt – Independent Dance and Performance e. V., which has been exploring the boundaries of performance art since 2013. This year’s edition of the festival will take place from August 21 to 23, 2026, in Frankfurt am Main and Rüdesheim am Rhein. Under the title “Soft Cities – We belong here!”, the festival highlights care, solidarity, and hope, and provides a platform for marginalized perspectives and those affected by discrimination. With free admission, the program includes performances, installations, public space events, and workshops for children and adults, connecting the local performance scene with artists from all over Germany.
