Infinito. L’universo di Luigi Ghirri. Ein Film von Matteo Parisini

In the organizer's words:

On February 4 at 6 p.m., the Italian Cultural Institute Cologne will be showing the film by Matteo Parisini "Infinito. L'universo di Luigi Ghirri" ("The infinite. The universe of Luigi Ghirri") in its theater hall.

"Infinito" is a photographic project by Luigi Ghirri from 1974, consisting of 365 images of the sky, one for each day of the year. The project stems from a series of theoretical reflections that were later published in the collection "Niente di antico sotto il sole" ("Nothing old under the sun") and reissued by Quodlibet in 2021. Based on this, Matteo Parisini creates a portrait that allows us to relive the life of the photographer from Reggio Emilia through his photography and writings.

The narrative unfolds like a journey through places in the region: land, water, hills and boundless horizons form the space in which his perspective unfolds. The film is a study of Ghirri's work as a photographer, which views his work not as a collection of individual, separate images, but as a kind of visual alphabet in which each individual photograph only acquires its meaning in dialog with the others.
This journey is accompanied by artists and contemporary witnesses who have shared experiences and visions with him: Franco Guerzoni, Davide Benati, the art historian Arturo Carlo Quintavalle, the publisher Arrigo Ghi, the photographer Gianni Leone and the musician Massimo Zamboni. Alongside them, Ghirri's family, who for him embodied the feeling of belonging to a simple but deeply connected community, also has their say. Ghirri's writings are read aloud by Stefano Accorsi.
