Interview with Nicole Aretz from the restoration studio "Die Schmiede"

The Droste zu Hülshoff family is a well-known aristocratic family from Westphalia. They are particularly well known for the poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff. The family's carriage was used on important occasions. It dates from 1850 and is almost completely preserved. It has hardly been altered since then and clearly shows how good the craftsmanship was back then. The carriage is also a symbol of the life of the nobility in the 19th century. It shows how the nobility got around and what place they had in society.

Nicole Aretz works for the restoration studio Die Schmiede in Duisburg. She will provide insights into the restoration of the carriage. The restoration studio Die Schmiede restored the carriage in 2025.
