The sculptor Louise Stomps (1900-1988) led an uncompromisingly independent life as an artist. Her work revolves around existential experiences such as love, grief, hope and loss. Curator Lynn Busch tells Museum Day visitors about an unusual artist and her unique life and work.

Two artists, one focus: the human being. Like Louise Stomps, the focus of Käthe Kollwitz's work is on people. Initially, Kollwitz still showed her figures with their formative surroundings, later she detached herself completely from them and concentrated exclusively on people - her "essentials".

The artistic path of the sculptor Louise Stomps led consistently from figuration to abstraction, with the human being remaining the constant focal point of her work. She lived an unusual life: self-determined, uncompromising, modern. Sculptures and prints by this little-known artist also bear witness to her political commitment, which she associates with Käthe Kollwitz.
