Janine Jansen spielt Schostakowitsch
In the organizer's words:
Powerful bell chimes make the walls tremble; resounding brass fanfares ring out from the towers with their golden domes; a solemn orchestral procession moves majestically through “The Great Gate of Kyiv” — With the finale of his “Pictures at an Exhibition,” Modest Mussorgsky has created a musical monument to a structure that was never built. Inspired by a memorial exhibition for his friend Viktor Hartmann, Mussorgsky composed a cycle whose musical imagination extends far beyond the original images. Dmitri Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto offers a striking contrast: an inner monologue oscillating between darkness, irony, and bitter mockery. In a narrative tone, the solo violin defies, laments, and whispers, as vast soundscapes alternate with sharp-edged rhythms. Janine Jansen performs the virtuosic and expressive solo part.
