Fazıl Say: Roots
Zoltán Kodály: Sonata for violoncello solo
Musical roots in the folk songs and dances of Hungary and Turkey: cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras has three solo works with roots in his luggage. 200 years after Bach's cello suites, Zoltán Kodály will be pounding out Hungarian rhythms. Ahmed Adnan Saygun combines Bach's legacy with the Turkish makam in his Partita from 1955. Queyras will also be performing a solo work by Fazıl Say.
