Now it's circular - cycles instead of waste
Special exhibition at the Museum Mensch und Natur
March 27, 2026 - January 10, 2027
Be inspired by cycles and discover the most important steps towards a circular future
What if we used waste as raw materials for new things? If we use products for as long as possible? If we give things a longer life, for example by repairing and exchanging them? That is the idea behind the circular economy. Reusing materials again and again and, if possible, without harming the environment. Nature shows us how. Why can't we humans do the same in the long term?
Linear becomes circular
For a circular economy to work, each and every one of us is called upon to rethink our own consumer behavior. Whether it's a new smartphone or a cool T-shirt - up to now, consumption has usually meant taking raw materials from nature and processing them into products that are often only used for a short time and then thrown away.
This linear economy leads to scarce resources, growing mountains of waste and harmful emissions and waste water. This does not work in the long term. The way we are currently producing and consuming is changing the environmental conditions on earth and endangering our own livelihoods.
How can we do it differently?
In the exhibition, you can virtually design a circular sneaker at interactive stations, try out different waste separation methods or take a look at a circular future. You can get ideas and suggestions on how things can be done differently during the exhibition, but also at numerous hands-on activities, lectures and guided tours, etc.
The exhibition is a joint project of the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) and VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH. The DBU is one of the largest foundations in Europe. The DBU promotes innovative, exemplary projects for environmental protection with a special focus on small and medium-sized enterprises. It is the concern of the DBU to contribute to solving current environmental problems.
