In the organizer's words:
Johanna Summer and Malakoff Kowalski share an extraordinary mutual appreciation: virtuoso, reduced and full of musical magic beyond mere technique.
For the first time, they are now performing a duo program together. The occasion is two recent releases: Summer's jazz EP Upright (ACT 2025) and Kowalski's album Songs With Words (Sony Classical 2025), on which he sings poems by Allen Ginsberg - accompanied by Igor Levit, Johanna Summer and Chilly Gonzales, among others. At the same time, Summers created a seven-part jazz suite in the studio, which combines original compositions, standards and a Wagner elegy.
The concert program combines pieces from both releases as well as solo piano works and moves between improvised jazz, European classical music and American beat poetry.
