Theo Engel works as a physician who assists with end-of-life care in the Netherlands. But the job takes its toll on him; Theo struggles with depression. One day, Gerrit Blauw, a healthy, elderly man, asks him to assist with his death, as he considers his life complete. To convince Theo, Gerrit tells him about the beauty that has filled his life. For the first time, Theo begins to wonder whether a person deserves not only a beautiful life, but also a beautiful death.
