Karosh Taha confronts the power of war, hatred and lack of freedom with her language. "Gulîstan" is the name of the protagonist of Karosh Taha's third novel. She lives as a Kurdish woman in a country that is hostile to her. For her language, her thoughts, for her whole existence. Under the dictatorial regime of Saddam Hussein, she leads a shadowy existence, persecuted as a Kurd. When her husband Çiya disappears, the extent of her powerlessness is brutally brought home to her. When they meet again, he is dressed in the uniform of the Iraqi dictator, as his double. Gulîstan is arrested and increasingly loses her mind - but not her power of resistance.
Karosh Taha writes about fear and oppression, the cruelty of a paranoid system and resistance through storytelling.
