Josef Brustmann: Jeder ist wer
In the organizer's words:
Reading with Musical Accompaniment
In his debut novel, cabaret artist and musician Josef Brustmann tells the story of his family in truly wonderful prose. Driven from their homeland, the family members arrived as refugees in the “promised” land of Bavaria. Brustmann himself grew up in extreme poverty as the eighth of nine children. Through singing, laughter, and making music, the siblings brought each other comfort. Their father was “consumed” by war and captivity and was only able to show his love very late in life; the grandfathers passed away early. All of this left behind a grief that continued to resonate for a long time in the generations that followed. For while some “forget” quickly, others never can.
Music has been a constant companion in Josef Brustmann’s life, and today he is a virtuoso on several instruments. His studies at the conservatory and his years as a music teacher at a Munich high school have further contributed to his skill. After numerous solo performances as a cabaret artist, he was awarded the German Cabaret Prize in 2015.
Martin Regnat will provide musical accompaniment for the reading evening on the harmonica.
