JUDEN JUDEN JUDEN

In the organizer's words:

JEWS JEWS JEWS

_____

Duration: approx. 75 minutes

This evening is entertaining, well-paced textually and staged as if on the rails. It is pleasant to see how criticism of the German majority society is presented here without reproach and how the so often invoked communal space is created in the theater.(Elena Philipp, nachtkritik.de, 28.4.24)

Last June, JUDEN JUDEN JUDEN celebrated a highly acclaimed premiere at the LICHTHOF Theater as part of a festival of the same name. This year, it can be seen not only in Heidelberg in April, where it has been invited to the Heidelberg Stückemarkt 2024, but also in an updated version on the LICHTHOF stage.

Jewish life in Hamburg is brought to life in various narrative strands - as it is today, as it is imagined, as it could be. Anti-Semitic and philo-Semitic clichés are questioned and the ascribed particularity of Judaism is set alongside a Jewish self-image.

Inspired by Stefan Heym's interpretation of Ahasver, the eternally wandering Jew, a polyphonic story is spun. The performers and the team relate their Jewish biographies to the topics dealt with, reinvent themselves and come to unexpected conclusions.
