Dance Evening by Patrick Lander

Lander Patrick is an internationally sought-after dancer and choreographer who will be creating a piece for TANZ_KASSEL for the first time. Lander Patrick’s works are characterized by a distinctive blend of great physical power, choreographic precision, and deep emotional awareness. Born and trained in Brazil, he developed an early sensitivity to the body as a social and political space—a perspective that continues to shape his artistic work to this day. His training combined classical techniques with contemporary approaches, enabling him to create choreographic structures that appear both organic and deliberate.

His dance pieces are presented internationally at renowned festivals and by dance companies worldwide. For him, dance and movement are interpreted not only as expressions of physical virtuosity, but as a medium that explores questions of identity, power, vulnerability, and community. In his pieces, physical intensity and poetic imagery collide with social themes and personal reflection, within a radical understanding of movement and his own choreographic vocabulary. The works are created through a dialogic process: a collaborative interplay with dancers, musicians, visual artists, and live elements, which lends his works a multi-layered resonance. We look forward to the collaboration with TANZ_KASSEL—the fusion of choreographic vision with the powerful and experimental spirit of TANZ_KASSEL, physicality, emotions, and contemporary radicalism. For his creation, Lander Patrick explores the principle ofJupiter. Jupiteris not a narrated universe, but one that can be physically experienced: a dance about power and gravity, about community and individual strength—and about humanity caught between greater, invisible forces. Jupiter is the supreme god of the Roman pantheon, ruler of the heavens, bringer of lightning and order, the embodiment of power and authority—the vertical force of the universe: the Above that acts upon the Below, the energy that transcends the human, the tension between control and violence, between protection and threat.
