What role do power structures play as we think, make, watch and talk about films? What forms of self-empowerment do they contain?
Panel discussion and Q&A with this year's QFFM jury: River Matzke, Theresa Rodewald and Jakob M. Erwa. The concept of power is a hotly debated topic both inside and outside of academic contexts, often with little stringent definition. In this panel, we will address this seemingly unmanageable construct of power and try to untangle it for ourselves and reflect on our place in it.
and reflect on our place within it. We will discuss what we actually mean by power, systemic power structures in the film industry and forms of (cinematic) collective resistance. Our aim is not to find a fixed queer definition of power, but to specifically address the openness and fluidity of this topic, and after a public discussion round with the jury members, the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and enter into conversation.
