Karosh Taha: Gulistan
In the organizer's words:
Reading & Discussion – Literary Summer 2026
Gulistan lives with her husband Çiya in a country that is hostile toward them. Under Saddam Hussein’s regime, they are persecuted as Kurds. When Çiya disappears, Gulistan sets out to find him. Eventually, she encounters Çiya again at a rally—wearing the dictator’s uniform, posing as his double. Gulistan is arrested and gradually loses her sanity, yet develops an even stronger spirit of resistance—not just when she learns of her pregnancy. Karosh Taha (born in 1987 in Kurdistan) fled to Germany with her family as a child to escape Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship. *Gulistan* is her third novel.
