Musically, Harrold lives by the idea that the only thing that defines a genre is its rhythm. This belief has allowed Harrold to break down the walls of genre and move freely within the music. Since there are only 12 notes, he pours his soul into every musical situation, whether it's performing live with his band, recording, composing for television and film, mentoring youth and teaching music.
Keyon is a once-in-a-generation talent on the trumpet. His approach and sound are personal and appealing; a kind of magical haze, often described as a modern Miles Davis. Keyon was the trumpet voice of Miles Davis in the movie "Miles Ahead" directed by Don Cheadle; the soundtrack won a Grammy Award.
His work ranges from touring and recording with Jay-Z ("Roc Boys and the Winner is" - American Gangster Album), Beyonce (Bday, Renaissance 2022), Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, Cirque Du Soleil, to a record deal with legendary rapper NAS' label (Mass Appeal) and writing the theme song for Queen Latifah's show.
Keyon is an in-demand trumpeter, arranger, composer and music producer with contributing credits on many Grammy-winning and nominated albums. He has worked in the studio with Keith Richards, Diana Ross, Black Pumas, Mac Miller (Stay), Big K.R.I.T. and the God MC Nas (The Jarreau of Rap), as well as Leon Bridges (Gold Diggers Sound) and British crooner Samm Henshaw (Still Broke).
Keyon is a frequent collaborator with YEBBA (Distance), Robert Glasper (Black Radio lll, The Photograph, Miles Ahead), Maxwell (Black Summers Night), Common (Beautiful Revolution pt. 1[&]2), PJ Morton (Emotions, Gumbo, Gumbo Live) and Gregory Porter (Be Good, Take Me To The Alley).
He is an activist for social justice, change and equality. Keyon has released two critically acclaimed albums: "Introducing Keyon Harrold" (Criss Cross) and "The Mugician" (Sony Legacy).
Keyon Harrold has recently signed with Concord and his new album was released in early 2023.
