In the organizer's words:
KINTSUGI-INSPIRED WORKSHOP
REGISTRATION: Birgit.Depenbrock@web.de
Kintsugi is a centuries-old Japanese method of repairing ceramics in which the cracks are intentionally highlighted with gold.
“Finding beauty in the ephemeral.”
Perfectionism and consumerism are everywhere. The philosophy of wabi-sabi, in which the roots of kintsugi are anchored, offers a wonderful contrast to this.
The Mindful Mending Workshop is inspired by the traditional kintsugi technique.
This evening is not about the final product, but about the process itself, the shared experience, and immersing ourselves in the beauty of imperfection.
I’ll show you how to repair a broken object using the proper technique—and in the process, how to turn your own fractures into something beautiful.
You’ll learn about urushi lacquer and its properties, but due to time constraints, we’ll use synthetic resin to glue the shards together.
All materials, protective clothing, tools, and the shards will be provided for you.
You’ll be able to take home the ceramic piece you’ve repaired yourself.
I’ll guide you in such a way that you won’t need ANY prior crafting experience.
