Chicago, 1929: two burnt-out jazz musicians, Joe (Tony Curtis) and Jerry (Jack Lemmon), accidentally observe a mafia gang shooting a group of opponents. They are discovered by the gangsters, but the two professional musicians just manage to escape the hail of bullets. Completely shaken up by what has happened, the two decide to flee the city as quickly as possible. In their distress, they come up with the completely crazy idea of disguising themselves as the two musicians Josephine and Daphne and joining a women's band. But things turn out as they must: Joe falls in love with the pretty singer Sugar (Marilyn Monroe) and Jerry, alias Daphne, is idolized by multimillionaire Osgood Fielding III (Joe E. Brown). Amusing misunderstandings, hilarious mix-ups and hilarious situations ensue...
