Konzert: Khana Bierbood & Blackbird Mantra

The music of Khana Bierbood is equal parts revival and revelation. The band was formed around 2012 in Thailand's beach side sub district Bangsaen by university friends who shared a love for

the western psychedelic music of the 60's-70's. As they began writing songs they found a likeness in their sound and the Thai Funk, Luk Tung, and Molam music styles of those eras. An influence that the band says comes from their simplistic reduction of generational stories andcultural experiences which envelope a hidden underlying wit. A kind of Thai pop sensibility that lays the foundation for a truly kaleidoscopic frenzy of authentic fuzz and far east frequencies.

In 2024 the band recorded their second studio album, Monolam.

While the album maintains the bands original charm, it shows a departure toward an even more sublime and groovy sound.

A sound that pays homage to their passion for the past

and their longing for a new cultural renaissance.

Blackbird Mantra is a four-piece psych rock band founded in Hamburg in 2017.

Their sprawling, high-contrast songs have already been compared to the sound and songwriting of Television, The Doors or Timber Timbre (Ox-Fanzine, Neølyd Magazine).

The radio station ByteFM describes their sound as follows:

"...as if country guitars in a garage had outlasted the days of punk. Or as if they'd briefly got in touch with the spirit of The

Gun Club singer Jeffrey Lee Pierce and then fell out."

Wherever you place the four Hamburgers between the genres of psych, garage and indie rock, it is striking how effortlessly they weave these influences into a spherical, grooving overall sound. Four equal songwriters are at work here, celebrating psychedelic music far removed from outdated rock clichés.
