Kukily Afrofeminist Arts Collective ›Mandioca – an afrodiasporic journey‹

Mandioca, cassava, yuca, aipim—what is this root tuber called in your language, where you live? At the heart of“Mandioca – an afrodiasporic journey”is the cassava plant, which connects territories around the world on social, political, and culinary levels. Starting with a communal tasting of this versatile tuber, theKukily Afrofeminist Arts Collectiveinvites you, as part of the summer festival“Shifting Grounds – IN COMMON‹, the Kukily Afrofeminist Arts Collective invites you to experience cassava as a means of exchanging languages, recipes, memories, ancestral practices, and forms of resistance. With a special focus on Africa and its diaspora, the collective embarks on a historical journey through the diverse uses of cassava—from its use as a weapon during the era of enslavement to its role as a tool in the creation of artistic fabric patterns. Through shared exchange, a space emerges dedicated to the practices of planting, cultivating, preparing, and eating, allowing participants to experience cassava as a vessel of history, community, and cultural heritage.
