After a six-month winter break, Vera Vorneweg invites you to the next event in her Kunstkiosk reading series. The authors Esther Kinsky and Julia Fiedorczuk will be reading from their works at Elona Caffee, Stoffeler Straße 3. Vera has once again planned three poetry evenings in Düsseldorf-Oberbilk this year. She is staying true to the concept. As in the past, each event will feature two poetic contributions with a focus on the visual in poetry, and one of the poets will read their texts in their native language.
Esther Kinsky grew up in the Rhineland and studied Slavic studies in Bonn. As an author, she writes both prose and poetry. Her first novel "Sommerfrische" was published in 2009. In her book "Hain: Geländeroman", published in 2018, she describes a grieving person's view of the world. The novel won the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in the fiction category. In addition to her own writing, Kinsky translates literary texts from Polish, Russian and English.
Julia Fiedorczuk is a writer, poet, translator and academic. She has published collections of short stories and novels as well as six volumes of poetry. In February 2026, her book "Under the Sun" was published for the first time in German translation by Transit Verlag. Julia Fiedorczuk's works have been translated into more than 20 languages. She is a columnist for the popular Polish weekly magazine Polityka and a frequent guest on Polish radio. Her academic work focuses on experimental poetics and environmental issues. She also teaches at the Institute of English Studies and is a co-founder of the Center for Environmental Humanities at the University of Warsaw. In 2018, she received the Szymborska Prize and was also nominated for the Nike Prize for Literature (2016) and - twice - for the Julian Tuwim Prize for Lifetime Achievement.
