"Lilly & Elisabeth" - a gripping coming-of-age story as a live radio play with live music from the Syncopation Society Orchestra.

Lilly, an Afro-German schoolgirl from Berlin, is going through a period of uncertainty. An event at school throws everything out of balance. When she finds a box of photos, letters and sound recordings in the attic, she discovers the life of her great-great-grandmother Elisabeth, who lived as a young woman in Berlin in the 1920s.

Through the finds, Lilly immerses herself in a bygone world. A time of political and social change, a flourishing jazz culture and the rise of radical right-wing political forces. The more Lilly learns about Elisabeth, the more she recognizes parallels to her own life - and finds new strength.

Three actresses take to the stage to guide the audience through the story. The play is musically accompanied by the Syncopation Society Orchestra, which interprets the sound of early jazz live and acoustically.

The author
François Perdriau is a musician, producer and founder of the Syncopation Society. He has been developing projects at the interface of music, history and cultural education for many years, including the festival Are You Syncopated?!, the EU project Swinging Europe Network and the Backbeat Jazz Academy.
