In the organizer's words:
The journey to the destroyed homeland confronts Madina with the fresh wounds of war, suffering and mistrust. She has to realize that not every search ends positively.
"The Smell of Soot and Roses" from the year 2023 is a coming-of-age novel about flight, trauma, loss, but also self-empowerment. The title is symbolic of destruction (soot) and the memory of the good times before the war (roses).
The Austrian author Julya Rabinowich will be presenting the book in Cologne.
The event is planned, organized and moderated by students of the Erzbischöfliches Berufskolleg Köln as part of the #lassmalesen project.
