There is hardly another district where living space and industry were as close together as in Kalk. The district was once an important and independent industrial city. Even today, the remnants of former industrial plants clearly characterize the cityscape.
The guided tour takes you on a two-hour walk that shows you where chemistry and metalworking achieved world renown and ultimately came to an end. Seven stops will show you how a loose collection of farms became an industrial city with 28,000 inhabitants and ultimately part of Cologne within just a few decades.
A tour for anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of today's Kalk through history.
