Lesung & Diskussion | Trois femmes disparaissent / Nerona – Hélène Frappat
In the organizer's words:
Power, reality and the role of women in our society - a literary encounter with Hélène Frappat at the CCFF!
In Trois femmes disparaissent, Hélène Frappat devotes herself to three generations of Hollywood actresses: Tippi Hedren, her daughter Melanie Griffith and her granddaughter Dakota Johnson. Based on films - from The Birds to Fifty Shades of Grey - she shows how these women are simultaneously made visible and made to disappear through cinema. This tension forms the central theme of her penetrating analysis.
In Nerona, Frappat takes us into the mind of an Italian executive who increasingly transforms into a decadent Roman emperor. The novel reveals the perfidious mechanisms of a language that dehumanizes and at the same time invites us to reflect on political violence and the limits of democratic tolerance.
Her works open up multi-layered perspectives on the development of power, reality and the role of women in our society since the middle of the 20th century.
Hélène Frappat holds a doctorate in philosophy and is a novelist and film critic with a great passion for cinema. She also works as a translator. In her writing, she seeks the "truth" in fiction. Her most important publications include Trois femmes disparaissent (2023), Nerona (2025) and the essay Le Gaslighting ou l'art de faire taire les femmes (2023).
