In the organizer's words:
The beginning of the 20th century on the Bavarian-Austrian border. The young ferryman Hannes Winkler lives a life on the Salzach. According to old custom, he is not allowed to marry. Because if he were to have an accident, his family would be destitute.
This hits him and his childhood friend Elisabeth hard, as they had hoped to marry. But Elisabeth bows to the will of her parents' generation and marries the rich farmer Josef, who in turn has a liaison with Annemarie, another childhood friend of Hannes and Elisabeth.
During the First World War, this difficult constellation is caught up in a maelstrom of violence in which the women are in danger of perishing.
Regina Denk tells the story of Hannes, Elisabeth and Annemarie and their great love for each other, which is ahead of its time, in a captivating, authentic and very sensitive way.
A book that you can immerse yourself in and that will stay with you for a long time.
