Slow Club Freiburg presents:
JANITA JUVONEN reads from her book:
DIE ANDEREN - DIE HARTE REALITÄT DER OBDACHLOSIGKEIT
ABOUT THE PERSON:
Janita-Marja Juvonen's street name was JJ.
At the age of 14, she took to the streets for just as many years.
Today, the 44-year-old is an author and experience expert.
She works with and for people without a home, for education, prevention, understanding, against prejudice, stigmatization, discrimination and violence.
In addition to her readings, she is particularly interested in visiting schools and other children's and youth facilities.
Juvonen continues to lead city tours on the topic of homelessness in Essen, writes on her blog and Instagram and is a political activist.
She has already spoken to the German Bundestag on the subject of alternative custodial sentences for driving without a ticket.
Juvonen wants to give homelessness a face.
She wants to create visibility for people in the shadows of the dominant society, in the shadows of people with homes.
"My hardest march was back to life"
(Janita-Marja Juvonen)
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Imagine a world that is only a few steps away from your own, yet seems to be in a different universe. "THE OTHERS" is not a book about an individual, but a haunting exploration of a hidden society that exists in our midst. Janita-Marja Juvonen, who herself roamed the streets for over 14 years, opens our eyes to the realities of homelessness. And she does so from a perspective that is rarely found in literature on this subject: that of the woman.
In a world where homeless women are often less visible, Juvonen brings her experiences and those of her fellow sufferers into the spotlight. This book is a mirror that reflects the distorted prejudices of our society. It debunks the clichés of "it's your own fault" and "too lazy to work" and shows that homelessness can affect anyone, regardless of education or social status.
