“What we cannot imagine cannot come into being,” writes bell hooks. For four days, the Lichtspielwerkstatt invites you to imagine together, rethink things, experiment, and shed the logic of constraints. With invited guests, on-site projects, and through intensive dialogue, we aim to piece together a big picture from many fragments, articulate it collectively, and experience in a very concrete way what a progressive form of film education could look like.

Seeking to enable cultural participation in aesthetic film education for people of all ages always requires pursuing a utopian ideal. Where does the potential lie for the further development and expansion of aesthetic film education programs beyond the constant appeal to cultural policy—especially in the midst of the so-called “culture war”? Perhaps in radical redistribution, perhaps in collective, decentralized structures and networks, perhaps in “just doing it”?

We want to explore these questions through panels, installations, screenings, and workshops.
