Lieblingsplatte Festival: Fresh Family "Falsche Politik"

With Fresh Familee, another legendary hip-hop act of the first generation comes to Lieblingsplatte. The group formed at the end of the 1980s when Plattenpapzt joined a music project that originated in the Ratingen-West youth center. The musicians have Turkish, Moroccan, Macedonian and German roots and thus reflect the multicultural environment of the district. In Fresh Familee's lyrics, the rappers deal with the struggle for survival and transform it into positive energy. Prejudice against migrants is the theme of the big hit "Ahmet Gündüz" from 1990, which is considered the first pressed rap production in German. "My name is Ahmet Gündüz, let me tell you / You have to listen carefully, I can't speak much German / I come from Turkey, two years ago / I'm very happy, but life here is hard." This is how the song begins, which is accompanied by an impressive video that tells the story of how intolerance and confrontation can turn into mutual respect and openness towards one another. Fresh Familee convey their trenchant political statements with a completely new and fresh sound at the time: the republic had never heard anything like it! It was the time of the hip-hop pioneers in Germany, Torch and Toni L were already guests on Lieblingsplatte, who also started early with German lyrics. With "Die da!?!", the Fantastischen Vier bring a German hip-hop track into the charts for the first time, Fresh Familee subsequently become the second rap act in Germany to be signed by a major record company. Their debut album "Falsche Politik" was released in 1993, marking the beginning of a career with many television appearances (some of which can still be found on the internet) and tours, for example as support for US rapper Ice-T and his band Bodycount. Just five years after the release of "Falsche Politik", the Fresh Familee disbanded. Plattenpapzt embarks on a successful solo career that continues to this day, and Tachi continues to tour the country as frontman of the Braunschweig band Jazzkantine. Fresh Familee's influence on the history of hip-hop in our country cannot be overestimated, as the group brought rap from the suburbs to the clubs and mass media. The spirit of their music, which speaks of tolerance and respect for one another, is more important today than ever. Plattenpapzt and Tachi will be performing the Lieblingsplatte evening with many special guests, bringing the hip-hop spirit from the early days into the present day.
