Literatur: Andreas Rossmann im Gespräch mit Paolo Rumiz

As part of theliterature series in which Italian authors present their latest publications to the German public, the Italian Cultural Institute Cologne is hosting an encounter with Paolo Rumiz, the author of the novel Una voce dal Profondo (Feltrinelli), which was published in Germany by Folio Verlag under the title Eine Stimme aus der Tiefe.

The discussion, which will be held in Italian and German with simultaneous translation, will be moderated by Andreas Rossmann and will take place on Thursday, June 12 at 7 p.m. in the theater hall of the Kulturinstitut.

On the journey to the foundations of Italy, from Sicily to Naples, across the Apennines to Friuli, an inferno of fault lines opens up. This is the material for Rumiz's passionate explorations "with Aladdin's magic lamp" in the world of the Minotaur. The author climbs craggy mountains on the Aeolian Islands, the craters of Mount Etna and explores underground springs in the Karst as well as the caves of the hermits in Calabria and early Christian catacombs in Rome. He questions old and new cults and myths, talks to people from science, politics and the street and tells of everyday life in the shadow of the unpredictable. How to live on such uncertain terrain?

Paolo Rumiz, born in 1947, lives in Trieste and the Slovenian Karst. As a sailor, hiker and author of unconventional books, he is also a correspondent from crisis regions and has been writing reports from his bike tours to Istanbul, his bus, hitchhiking and hiking trips to the edges of Europe or to the Arctic since 1998. He sailed along the old trade routes of Venice and spent several weeks on a lonely lighthouse in the Adriatic Sea. Almost all of Rumiz's titles were published in Italy by Feltrinelli. The following works have been published in Germany by Folio Verlag: Der Leuchtturm (2017), Die Seele des Flusses. On the Po through an unknown Italy (2018), Via Appia. Andreas Rossmann, born in Karlsruhe in 1952, was culture editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung from 1986 to 2017 and correspondent for NRW. In 2017, he published the book "Mit dem Rücken zum Meer. From a Sicilian diary"
