In a groundbreaking year filled with international tours, millions of music streams, and an appearance in the 2024 remake of the cult classic film *The Crow*, the Canadian cold-wave duo TRAITRS demonstrated throughout 2024 why they are one of the hardest-working bands on the modern goth scene. With their nightmarish mosaic of icy guitars, melancholic synthesizers, driving drum-machine rhythms, and anthemic melodies interwoven with horror-inspired lyrics, TRAITRS capture the spirit of older bands like The Cure, Bauhaus, and the Cocteau Twins, while remaining firmly anchored in the present. In late 2015, Shawn Tucker (vocalist/guitarist) and writer/keyboardist Sean-Patrick Nolan formed the band TRAITRS in Toronto, Ontario, the band TRAITRS, as the two shared a love of punk, electronic music, and arthouse horror films and spent endless months developing their edgy cold-wave sound before recording with renowned producer and multi-instrumentalist Josh Korody (The Beaches, The Dirty Nil, Japandroids, Fucked Up) at Candle Recording. In April 2016, TRAITRS released their debut cassette, “Rites and Ritual,” on the trendy Toronto-based boutique label Pleasence Records, which quickly caused a stir in the underground scenes of Germany, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, and France. This momentum carried the duo into 2018, when TRAITRS released their critically acclaimed second album, “Butcher’s Coin” (Pleasence Records, Manic Depression Records, Alchera Visions).
