Lucia Appel Trio: Jazzebel Music
In the organizer's words:
Sensual, captivating smooth jazz
“Jazzebel”… it’s a play on words, a bit risqué, that describes this band’s style: sensual, captivating smooth jazz, with a touch of underground and soul.
Unconventional and sophisticated, with arrangements rich in rhythm and blues, the band performs enchanting, lyrical jazz standards from the 1930s and 1940s—by artists such as Nat King Cole, Cole Porter, or Nina Simone—elegant arrangements in the style of Diana Krall, as well as magical songs by contemporary artists like Tom Waits or Melody Gardot, and the band’s own song-oriented jazz compositions.
Singer and pianist Lucia Appel honed her craft under the renowned jazz pianist Larry Porter and through her jazz piano studies at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich. This was followed by studies in the U.S. at Berklee College of Music with Ray Santisi (Diana Krall’s teacher) in jazz piano and with Bob Stoloff in jazz vocals. As a bandleader and composer, the charismatic artist uncompromisingly pursues her own musical path through her original projects. She is also at home in the world of Latin music with her quintet project, Luma Sabor.
Lineup: Lucia Appel (piano, vocals), Markus Wagner (double bass), Thomas Elwenspoek (drums)
