Maria Theresia 23. Biografie einer Münchner Villa

In the organizer's words:

The Monacensia in the Hildebrandhaus, Maria-Theresia-Straße 23, opens the new permanent exhibition "Maria Theresia 23. Biography of a Munich Villa" on Sunday, October 27, from 11 am. The exhibition tells the eventful history of the Hildebrandhaus from the artists' villa of the Prince Regent era to the present day.
The sculptor Adolf von Hildebrand had the villa built in the time of the Prince Regent as a prestigious studio and residence in which art and life formed an ideal unity. Over the years, the Hildebrand House became a place where many life stories took a tragic and cruel turn. National Socialism marked a chapter characterized by disenfranchisement and extermination. Persecutees, profiteers and representatives of the Nazi regime lived together in the villa and its immediate vicinity in a very confined space. Processes of repression and forgetting left behind many gaps and blind spots that extend far into the post-war period. A special focus is placed on previously little-researched events and people who shaped the house and its immediate surroundings. Another focus of the exhibition is on the current use of the Hildebrandhaus as an artists' villa. This reflects Munich's literary and cultural diversity and serves as a meeting place, production site and stage for established and aspiring authors, artists, cultural workers and the independent scene.
The exhibition can be visited Monday to Wednesday and Friday from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm, Thursday from 12 pm to 7 pm and at weekends from 11 am to 6 pm. Free admission.
The exhibition is constantly evolving in the online magazine MON_Mag and invites visitors to contribute their knowledge. The online magazine can be found at www.mon-mag.de. Information on the exhibition and the accompanying programs at www.monacensia.org.
The Monacensia is the literary memory of the city of Munich. With its extensive research library and literary archive, it preserves the city's cultural heritage and promotes dialog between past and present. It has been based in the Hildebrandhaus since 1977. The exhibition "Maria Theresia 23: Biography of a Munich Villa" is part of the "Archiv Salamander" (Salamander Archive), a multi-year project of the Monacensia in the Hildebrandhaus under the patronage of Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter.
