Some people still think a cappella is a stuffy genre for bland musical performances that lack punch. They didn’t count on MAYBEBOP! Some 25 years after their founding, they’re fresher than ever and delight in subverting every expectation. What this band has been doing full-time for a quarter-century is far more than mere vocal acrobatics. It’s an exploration of the essence of musical expression, distilled down to the purely human: the voice. The results are original, German-language compositions that elegantly navigate the spectrum between sharp-tongued satire, profound reflection, touching empathy, and absurd comedy.
