Mclusky, a ragged Welsh trio influenced by both punk and indie rock, first appeared on the scene in 1998. Led by Andrew Falkous (vocals/guitar), the band originally also included Matthew Harding (drums) and Jonathan Chapple (bass). Mclusky made their recording debut in the U.K. with 2000’s *My Pain and Sadness Is More Sad and Painful Than Yours* (Fuzzbox).
They then signed with Too Pure and teamed up with Steve Albini to produce their second album. The previously released singles “Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues” and “To Hell with Good Intentions” were released before the full-length album *Mclusky Do Dallas* came out on Too Pure in April 2002. The album was widely hailed as a major step forward from the charming yet still amateurish *My Pain*, and made quite a few year-end best-of lists on both sides of the Atlantic. Mclusky toured the festival circuit in the U.K. that summer and continued working on their third full-length album. *The Difference Between Me and
You Is That I'm Not on Fire arrived in 2004, but by the following year the band decided to call it quits. An expanded version of the compilation *Mcluskyism* was released in early 2006. Falkous and Egglestone later joined forces with members of fellow Welsh band Jarcrew to form Future of the Left.
Mclusky began reuniting in 2015, with Damien Sayell on bass and vocals (first as Mclusky*, then reverting to the original name).
In September 2023, the band released a four-track EP—their first new music in 19 years—titled *Unpopular Parts of a Pig*. Its title track, as well as the second track, “The Digger You Deep,” are said to be taken from the band’s fourth studio album.
