Mendelssohn Schumann I | Kronberg Festival 2026 „Courage!“

Two composers, two works, and one artist who brings both to life.

In this concert,Sir András Schiff takes on the dual role of pianist and music director of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture opens the evening with a soundscape inspired by Scotland’s rugged coastline, the sea, the wind, and the vast expanse of the landscape.

The focus is on Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor. It is not a virtuosic showpiece in the conventional sense, but rather an intense dialogue between the piano and the orchestra. Poetry, passion, and the intimacy of chamber music come together in a work that redefines the boundaries between the solo concerto and symphonic thinking.

Sir András Schiff and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe will present the first part of a special double-bill—focused, poetic, and sustained by a long-standing artistic bond.
