Season Opening
Michael Stavarič, “The Shadow Catcher”
Every year, a journey to the next solar eclipse. That’s how Stella’s father lives his life. He always returns with photos of the sparkling solar corona and stories from the most remote places on Earth. He can’t take Stella with him—it’s far too dangerous—but the peculiar special glasses and the glittering telescopes are also part of her everyday life. Until one morning, her father doesn’t get out of bed. From then on, Stella is on her own, an oddball in the small town. When she comes of age, she decides to finally find out why her father was so fascinated by the total eclipse. She books a trip to the Congo, where the sun will soon be hidden from view. There, Stella realizes that the moon’s shadow holds her father’s darkest secrets... - A modern fairy tale: With warmth and empathy, Michael Stavarič tells the story of a young woman who sets out into the looming darkness in search of her family history (Luchterhand 2025).
