Mittsommerliebe - A-cappella-Konzert mit den Chören Northern Spirit und Vox Animae

In the organizer's words:

Northern Spirit has been shaping Bremen's choral landscape for 20 years. In its anniversary year, the Bremen chamber choir, under the direction of Kay Philipp Fuhrmann since January 2026, returns to its musical roots in Australia: in addition to the piece "Here we are" by Lisa Young, works by Gordon Hamilton and Jaret Choolun (both former conductors of the choir) characterize the repertoire. As always, the choir also goes on a musical journey, which this time takes the audience to Scandinavia and Iceland, Hungary and Ireland.

Vox Animae has chosen settings from the "Song of Songs" and presents an excerpt from it with works by G.P. da Palestrina, M. Franck, H. Willan, O. Gjeilo and C. Bakalian. The "Song of Songs" is about the searching and finding, the longing and mutual praise of two lovers. Later, this very concrete courtship is reinterpreted as the love between Christ and mankind. In the New Testament, the texts serve as an ethical standard and inspiration for a life of following Christ, in which love for God and fellow human beings takes center stage. While other gifts and human knowledge are fleeting and always imperfect, love never ends; it endures beyond death and the end of time - without it, nothing works!

Northern Spirit was founded in 2006 by the Australian composer and conductor Gordon Hamilton, whose musical roots continue to influence the choir's distinctive style, musical standards and repertoire. The choir maintains a lively international exchange with other choirs and is constantly working on expanding its repertoire. Concert tours have already taken the choir to Spain, France, England, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden and Australia. The ensemble has also taken part in festivals and competitions in Bethlehem, Ramallah, Krakow and Riga. At the Chorfest in Leipzig in 2022, Northern Spirit received the special prize for the "Best world premiere of a folk song" (arrangement of the song "Bolle reistest zu Pfingsten" by its former director Jaret Choolun). Since the beginning of 2026, the choir has been led by composer and conductor Kay Philipp Fuhrmann.

Vox An imae was founded in 2014 by Imma Einsingbach and currently consists of 17 dedicated amateurs aged between their late 30s and late 60s. They are united by their curiosity to discover unknown repertoire and reinterpret the familiar. Vox Animae is not stylistically fixed, but loves to present a broad spectrum of sounds in varied and stimulating concert programs, which can range from the Middle Ages to jazz. The choir rehearses fortnightly on Monday evenings in Bremen Neustadt.
