Sam has lived in Toronto for four years and has not been back to his hometown of Cobourg since his transition. He now returns there for his father's birthday. However, he's afraid of the tolerance and stupid comments. On the train, he meets Katherine, an old friend from high school who is herself struggling with the ghosts of the past - and for whom Sam still has deep feelings.
Director Dominic Savage and lead actor Elliot Page worked together on the screenplay and the dialog is largely improvised. CLOSE TO YOU sensitively tells a very personal story of a young trans man.
