Myrna Loy

The Bonn-based avant-garde pop legend is back and ready to wake the Rhineland from its slumber!

Myrna Loy is an avant-garde pop band from Bonn that was first active from mid-1987 to 1994 and released three albums on the Normal Records label. The experimental band, beloved by fans and critics alike, was named after the legendary silent-film actress Myrna Loy. Myrna Loy’s sound is an exciting blend of new wave, industrial, pop, and ambient music. Typical of the band was their almost complete avoidance of photos in their public image and the use of stage names, which gave the band both anonymity and an air of mystery.

In 1988, the band won the Ruhr-Rock Festival in Bochum and recorded their debut album in the studio of legendary producer Conny Plank. The album *I Press My Lips in Your Inner Temple* was released in 1989 and was one of the few German albums to make it onto the SPEX/WOM annual sales charts.

In 1991, the band released their second album, “Time Says Helay,” which was acclaimed by the music press; this was followed in 1993 by their third album, “Immerschön,” which also featured German lyrics for the first time.

The band broke up in 1994. This was never officially announced.

Since December 2024, the first three albums have gradually been released digitally, each supplemented with previously unreleased live recordings, B-sides, demos, or rough mixes.

The band reformed in 2026 around founding members Alex, Mikele, and Cord. New to the lineup are Henning on vocals and Gregor on drums. The exclusive reunion show will take place at the Wave Gotik Festival in Leipzig, exactly 33 years after their last album release and tour. A first live preview of the new lineup can be heard on the live recording “KULT 41 – Live 31 03 2026,” recorded at a secret gig in Bonn this spring.

Myrna Loy used to perform live regularly at the Pantheon in Bonn, back when it was still at its old location. Now, with their new lineup, Myrna Loy is looking forward to their first public concert in their hometown of Bonn on October 26, 2026, right here in the Pantheon Lounge.
