The way people speak reveals a great deal about them, including their political views. Similarly, populist language can be identified by certain characteristics. What are they? What are they meant to convey? And what effect do they have? Among others, lawyerFrauke Brosius-Gersdorfand populism researcherSven Leunig will discuss these topics at the Political Salon.

Prof. Dr. Frauke Brosius-Gersdorfis a professor of public law at the University of Potsdam, specializing in constitutional, social, and educational law. In 2025, she withdrew her SPD-backed candidacy for the Federal Constitutional Court after failing to secure sufficient support from the CDU/CSU parliamentary groups. Her case sparked an intense debate about political campaigns, the independence of the judiciary, and political culture in Germany.

Sven Leunighas been a lecturer for special assignments at the Institute for Political Science at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena since 2013. His research areas include federalism, populism, the development of democratic systems, and democratic theory. In preparation for the 2026 state election in Saxony-Anhalt, he has examined the feasibility of the AfD’s election platform from a constitutional law perspective.
