The question of the authenticity of Mozart's Sinfonia concertante for wind instruments has been debated for decades without any convincing result. Neither for the audience nor for the four soloists from the ranks of the Munich Philharmonic does this matter - either way, the Sinfonia concertante is a masterpiece of wind literature. Richard Wagner gave his young wife Cosima a personal birthday present with the delicately lyrical "Siegfried Idyll". Opera lovers will recognize leitmotifs from Wagner's music drama "Siegfried". Nathalie Stutzmann also presents a rarity: "Lachrimae antiquae" comes from a collection of laments by Renaissance composer John Dowland. Robert Schumann looked back not quite as far as the Renaissance but at least as far as the Baroque period when composing his Second Symphony. His intensive study of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach was reflected in the work.
