NEW WAVES

NEW WAVES is a productive encounter between two systems: the structure of a municipal theater and the working methods of the independent scene. This cooperation creates spaces in which aesthetic signatures can develop beyond inscribed routines. The dancers of the Leipzig Ballet break new ground, create their own choreographies and try out artistic authorship.

Together with the Leipzig Ballet under the direction of Rémy Fichet, this creates a dialog that allows knowledge, resources and perspectives to flow between the municipal theater and the independent scene. LOFFT contributes its expertise in the development of contemporary formats, in collaborative work processes and in supporting young choreographers.

The stage becomes a laboratory and nine very different works unfold. They deal with themes such as connection and isolation, belonging and exclusion, and the body as a political and emotional space. One piece looks at the persecution of witches and patriarchy, while another explores the social microcosm of a party in a tango. Between depression and the desire for closeness, between chance and fate, between life and death, choreographic sketches are created that show how movement can express that which eludes language.

The LOFFT team provided targeted support during the creation process: Workshops on "Working in the independent scene" and "Lighting design and event technology" provided insights into self-organized production methods. NEW WAVES is thus not only a presentation platform, but also a place for knowledge transfer - and a concrete model for how cooperation between municipal theaters and the independent scene in Leipzig can be shaped in a forward-looking way.
