An ondist and a palm wielder meet - in o-ton!

What sounds like a bizarre play on words is an exciting, unique, experimental encounter between two extraordinary musicians and sound tinkerers.

We got to know and appreciate Cécile during rehearsals with the new music ensemble Emex at o-ton. She has mastered a unique and rare set of instruments, including the "Onde Martenot", and has already played as a sought-after interpreter with such renowned ensembles as the Vienna Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. We were able to win Cécile for her own concert at o-ton in January 2024, where she amazed our audience in the hall with her extraordinary playing.
At the end of her concert with us, we introduced her to her friend, musician and instrument inventor Andreas Oskar Hirsch, and the result was a very fine, spontaneous "pas de deux" between the two of them on their rarely heard, original instruments.
Almost exactly two years later to the day, the two sound artists are now meeting to develop and perform a joint album project:
On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, they will perform their first joint concert - exclusively at o-ton:
Music at the interface between contemporary music and experimental improvisation, performed on possibly the rarest (and most original) electro-acoustic instruments on the planet.

The "Onde Martenot", also known as the "onde musicale", is an early electronic musical instrument invented by Maurice Martenot in 1928. Its "musical waves" are still enchanting today, especially as a fine electro-acoustic experience. Cécile Lartigau, who both performs new music works and improvises on it, is one of the very few "ondists" in the world.

The musician and instrument inventor Andreas Oskar Hirsch has been developing his own idiosyncratic instruments such as the "Carbophone" or the "electrified palm frond" for many years. His own instruments offer him special and independent possibilities for musical expression beyond familiar instruments and conventional sound generators.
