The Argentinian star cellist Sol Gabetta and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France have long enjoyed a close artistic partnership. In Édouard Lalo's ravishing Cello Concerto, Sol Gabetta lets her instrument shine in all facets of sound. Mélanie Bonis portrays legendary women from Salome to Cleopatra in late romantic colors. And of course Maurice Ravel is not to be missed, whose Spanish-inflected "Alborada del gracioso" introduces the concert with just as much verve as the "Daphnis et Chloé" suite brings it to a close in a veritable orchestral rush of color.
