The Myth of Spain: Sun, Beach, and …
Panel discussion on the image of Spain in Germany
An event as part of Spanish Night, Dresden
Hardly any other country in Europe is as popular in Germany as Spain. Millions of people spend their vacations on the Iberian Peninsula, especially in Spain’s coastal regions. They enjoy the climate, the cuisine, the culture, and the traditions. And yet: The German image of Spain is sometimes also shaped by clichés and stereotypical views. The German idiom “Das kommt mir spanisch vor” (“That strikes me as odd”) is still part of everyday language. An extraordinary panel discussion on the German image of Spain will take place in the summer garden of the Italian Village. What makes it special: The participants share both a professional and a personal interest in Spain. The audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
Moderator:
Helena Cosano, Counselor – Head of the Department of Culture and Science, Embassy of Spain in Germany
Prof. Susanne Zepp-Zwirner, University of Duisburg-Essen
Panel:
Prof. Emeritus Dieter Ingenschay, Humboldt University of Berlin
Dr. Lena Hein, University of Duisburg-Essen
