PANDA platforma, Berlin, we’ll see the premier of this transcontinental trio.

It brings to 3 experienced improvisers with non-idiomatic backgrounds together, for an encounter that will (we think this is almost guaranteed) be at moments surprising at other moments searching and here or there pretty much exploding.

Liz Allbee is an improviser, composer, and performer residing in Berlin, Germany. She performs most often on self-designed quadraphonic trumpet, trumpet, electronics, and voice. Her work encompasses electro-acoustic composition, improvisation and instrument creation, often focusing on issues of embodiment and extension.

Kazuhisa Uchihashi began playing the guitar at the age of 12 and initially performed with various folk and rock bands before developing an interest in jazz whilst studying at Osaka University of Foreign Languages. From 1983, he experimented with sound creation on the electric guitar and began to explore free improvisation. In 1993, he went on tour with Hans Reichel for the first time. Between 1994 and 1997, he was also a member of Yoshihide Otomo’s Ground Zero, with whom he performed in Europe on several occasions. He has played with musicians such as Alfred Harth, Mani Neumeier, Barre Phillips, Kang Tae Hwan, Wadada Leo Smith, Peter Brötzmann, Ned Rothenberg, Jon Rose, Shelley Hirsch, Lauren Newton, Joëlle Léandre, Fred Frith, Derek Bailey, Satoko Fujii and Elliott Sharp. Furthermore, he has curated the Beyond Innocence festival in Osaka since 1996.

Jan Klare has been active as a saxophonist, bandleader and composer since the mid-1980s and has left little untouched. His biography includes concerts in many countries, dozens of CD, radio and TV productions, and collaborations with renowned colleagues.

Various awards attest to the quality of his work – as the founder of the orchestra ‘The Dorf‘, he has made his mark in recent years, having led a masterclass at the New England Conservatory in Boston, created the football opera ‘Duell D/NL 74‘, co-founded the label ‘Umland Records‘, compositions for “New Music” ensembles and the WDR Big Band, a piece for two wind orchestras, a gospel choir, a rock band, church bells and pyrotechnics, and much more besides.

Klare sees his work as “sociological field research” into listening habits, listeners’ expectations and the manipulation thereof.

In der PANDA platforma in Berlin erleben wir die Premiere dieses transkontinentalen Trios.

Es bringt 3 erfahrene Improvisator:innen mit nicht-idiomatischem Hintergrund zusammen, für eine Begegnung, die (wir sind uns da fast sicher) in manchen Momenten überraschend, in anderen suchend und hier und da regelrecht explodierend sein wird.

Liz Allbee ist Improvisatorin, Komponistin und Performerin und lebt in Berlin. Sie spielt meist auf einer selbst entworfenen quadrophonen Trompete, Trompete, Elektronik und Stimme. Ihre Arbeit umfasst elektroakustische Komposition, Improvisation und Instrumentenbau und beschäftigt sich häufig mit Fragen von Verkörperung und Erweiterung.

Kazuhisa Uchihashi begann im Alter von 12 Jahren Gitarre zu spielen und trat zunächst mit verschiedenen Folk- und Rockbands auf, bevor er während seines Studiums an der Universität für Fremdsprachen in Osaka sein Interesse für Jazz entwickelte. Ab 1983 experimentierte er mit Klangerzeugung auf der E-Gitarre und begann, sich mit freier Improvisation zu beschäftigen. 1993 ging er erstmals mit Hans Reichel auf Tournee. Zwischen 1994 und 1997 war er außerdem Mitglied von Yoshihide Otomos Ground Zero, mit denen er mehrfach in Europa auftrat. Er spielte mit Musiker:innen wie Alfred Harth, Mani Neumeier, Barre Phillips, Kang Tae Hwan, Wadada Leo Smith, Peter Brötzmann, Ned Rothenberg, Jon Rose, Shelley Hirsch, Lauren Newton, Joëlle Léandre, Fred Frith, Derek Bailey, Satoko Fujii und Elliott Sharp. Darüber hinaus kuratiert er seit 1996 das Festival Beyond Innocence in Osaka.

Jan Klare ist seit Mitte der 1980er Jahre als Saxofonist, Bandleader und Komponist aktiv und hat kaum etwas unberührt gelassen. Seine Biografie umfasst Konzerte in vielen Ländern, Dutzende von CD-, Radio- und TV-Produktionen sowie Zusammenarbeiten mit namhaften Kolleg:innen.

Verschiedene Auszeichnungen zeugen von der Qualität seiner Arbeit – als Gründer des Orchesters ‘The Dorf‘ hat er in den letzten Jahren Spuren hinterlassen, mit einer Masterclass am New England Conservatory in Boston, der Fußballoper ‘Duell D/NL 74‘, der Mitgründung des Labels ‘Umland Records‘, Kompositionen für „Neue Musik”-Ensembles und die WDR Big Band, einem Stück für zwei Blasorchester, Gospelchor, Rockband, Kirchenglocken und Pyrotechnik und vielem mehr.

Klare versteht seine Arbeit als „soziologische Feldforschung” zu Hörgewohnheiten, Erwartungen der Zuhörer:innen und deren Manipulation.
