Wooli Duo

Wooli (無理 / 우리) is an avant-garde folk duo formed by Taiwanese pipa player Fan-Qi Wu and Norwegian drummer Michael Lee Sørenmo. Since their debut in Oslo in April 2024, the duo has played across Europe at Vestafor, Aarhus Jazz, Babel Sound and (s)Nodi festivals; their self-titled first album was released on 13 March 2026. Wooli draws on East Asian traditional and folk music and on the openness of free improvisation, approaching tradition not as a fixed object but as something still in motion. The music is built in real time — through listening, dialogue, and a shared curiosity for sound.

Elena Kakaliagou — horn

Elena Kakaliagou (GR/AT) has built her own language on the French horn — lyrical and melancholic, at times fierce, at times nearly still. Classically trained in Athens, Graz and at the Sibelius Academy, she has been based in Berlin since 2010. Her solo work moves between tonality and noise, between song and percussive sound; microtonality is native to her, and she plays with a warm tone and a sense of timing entirely her own. She is a member of Zinc & Copper and zeitkratzer, and co-founder of the Rank Ensemble, the trio Para and the duo Nabelóse. Her listening extends in every direction — contemporary composition, free improvisation, folk, jazz — with no real interest in the borders between them.

Wooli (無理 / 우리) ist ein Avantgarde-Folk-Duo, gegründet von der taiwanesischen Pipa-Spielerin Fan-Qi Wu und dem norwegischen Schlagzeuger Michael Lee Sørenmo. Seit ihrem Debüt in Oslo im April 2024 ist das Duo europaweit aufgetreten – unter anderem beim Vestafor Festival, Aarhus Jazz Festival, Babel Sound Festival und (s)Nodi Festival. Ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum erschien am 13. März 2026. Wooli schöpft aus ostasiatischer traditioneller und Folk-Musik sowie aus der Offenheit der freien Improvisation und versteht Tradition nicht als feste Form, sondern als etwas Lebendiges, in Bewegung Bleibendes. Ihre Musik entsteht in Echtzeit – durch Zuhören, Dialog und eine geteilte Neugier auf Klang.

Elena Kakaliagou — Horn

Elena Kakaliagou (GR/AT) hat auf dem Horn ihre eigene Sprache entwickelt – lyrisch und melancholisch, mal ungestüm, mal beinahe still. Klassisch ausgebildet in Athen, Graz und an der Sibelius-Akademie, lebt sie seit 2010 in Berlin. Ihr Soloschaffen bewegt sich zwischen Tonalität und Geräusch, zwischen Gesang und perkussivem Klang; Mikrotonalität ist ihr selbstverständlich, und sie spielt mit einem warmen Ton und einem ganz eigenen Sinn für Timing. Sie ist Mitglied der Ensembles Zinc & Copper und zeitkratzer sowie Mitbegründerin des Rank Ensembles, des Trios Para und des Duos Nabelóse. Ihr Hören reicht in alle Richtungen – zeitgenössische Komposition, freie Improvisation, Folk, Jazz – ohne wirkliches Interesse an den Grenzen dazwischen.
